Fire Rating FAQ
Yes, we have a wide variety of Fire and Disability rated products.
On the Designer Doorware website, look out for the following symbols once you’ve selected a product.
It means the handle, lock or closer has been assessed to resist heat and smoke and to keep working in a fire. Fire doors hold back flames, smoke and hot gases so people have time to get out, and the hardware on them shares that job.
No. A fire door is an assembly of the door leaf, frame, seals, hardware and locking, and every part has to meet the standard for the doorset to keep its rating. The rating is set by the weakest part, so the hardware matters as much as the door itself.
Two standards apply. AS 1530.4:2014 covers fire resistance testing for elements of construction, including door hardware. AS 1905.1:2015 covers fire resistant doorsets: their design, construction and installation, how hardware is assessed for them, latching hardware, durability, and smoke control such as self-releasing latches and door seals.
