Doorware Fitting

» 1. How do I determine my door lever-on-plate handing?

For Australian fittings, if you are standing on the inside of the door and the door handle is to be fitted on the right hand side, then a 'right hand internal' door handle and plate is required and must be coupled with a 'left hand external' door handled and plate, as per the diagram below.

If you are standing on the inside of the door and the door handle to be fitted is on the left, then a 'left hand internal' door handle and plate is required, along with a 'right hand external' door handle and plate.

For US Settings, it's the complete opposite from the Australian settings, please see the diagram below:

For example: if you are standing on the inside of the door and you are using your right hand to hold the door handle that is fitted on the left, then a 'right hand internal' door handle and plate is required, along with a 'left hand external' door handle and plate.

» 7. Can I fit a door handle lever set to an existing door that has a pre-existing hole cut out?

Yes, we have conversion rose kits to suit 54mm pre-drilled doors.

» 8. How do I determine my door lever handing?

For Australian fittings, if you are standing on the inside of the door and the door handle is to be fitted on the right hand side, then a ‘right hand internal’ door handle is required. If it is on the left, then a ‘left hand internal’ door handle is required. Either of these will dictate that the other half of the door handle set is an external handle on the opposite side. See next question for further clarification of Designer Doorware’s door lever on plate handing.

Locks

» 9. Can I rekey my new locks to an existing key?

Yes, in most cases you can, provided you have a standard C4 keyway. C4 is one of Australia's most common keyways. For locksmithing services, call our friendly locksmiths on +613 9300 8899 or email us.

» 10. How do I change the handing on my mortice lock?

All Designer Doorware locks can be handed on site at the time of installation. All that is required is that the bolt be rotated.

  1. European style Mortice Locks: Our Euro mortice locks can be re-handed by turning the whole lock case upside down which allows the steel flap behind the lock tongue to clear the latch bolt. You can then freely rotate the latch bolt to the required position to suit your door handing.

  2. ML2000 series Locks: All that is required for the ML2000 series is to remove the faceplate, and turn the latch bolt to the required position to suit your door handing.
